Application Instructions:

Due Date: April 07, 2017

The complete applications for this award are due by April 07, 2017. A complete application consists of one electronic (PDF) and one printed copy of each of the following items delivered to Jean Dill Broida 3019, x4567):

1. Brief (≤ 2 pages) description of the research project and how the undergraduate student will participate. This is to be prepared by the graduate student.

2. CV of the graduate student, specifying their progress toward their degree and any prior mentoring experience.

3. Brief (≤ 2 pages) statement from the undergraduate regarding his or her professional goals and any prior research experience. It is anticipated that fellowship awardees will pursue senior honors thesis during the 2017-2018 or 2018-2019 academic year and express their intent to do so.  In addition, undergraduate promise, experience, and GPA in their major will factor into the decision for funding. Please put your name in the top corner of your document.

4. Letter of support from the graduate student's thesis advisor. The letter should demonstrate a commitment to supervise the project and be actively involved.

Please note that fellowship recipients will be obligated to commit a minimum of 10 weeks to the project, to give a presentation at an end-of-summer symposium and to provide a written summary of their team's progress and accomplishments at the end of the fellowship.  The Worsters will be invited to attend the symposium and the summaries will be sent to them in the fall as part of a package thanking them for this important gift.

Undergraduates who will graduate in June 2017 are NOT eligible for this award. Sophomores are encouraged to apply.

The fellowship is to perform research for 10 weeks during the summer under the direct supervision of a mentoring graduate student. The undergraduate students are expected to dedicate their full attention to their research. Research fellows will not be permitted to register for classes during the summer quarter. Both undergraduate and graduate students will be required (and faculty will be encouraged) to attend bi-monthly meetings in which the undergraduates will give brief progress reports. Meeting dates and times will be made available soon.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Andrea Young or Sathya Guruswamy via e-mail.
