Research:
Broadly, theoretical high energy physics. More particularly, I study black hole formation using quantum theory and string theory. Here is a list of my papers on the arXiv.
Diversifying Physics:
In Fall 2009 I taught a course on cosmology, the scientific study of the universe, for the School for Scientific Thought. From 2006 to 2010 I was the physics instructor for the Summer Institute in Math and Science program. I have enjoyed being involved, in various capacities, with the Physics Circus. I recently returned to the high school, Amerischools College Prep Academy, where I was the science teacher in 2006, and guest-lectured on Black Holes, which was a big hit!
Life outside of my PhD
I play violin in the UCSB Symphony and with my band Los Wachinangos. I also like to play a variety of other stringed instruments. I've been involved with some humanitarian work in Peru through our local chapter of Engineers Without Borders.
