Printing multiple logical pages per physical page
There are several ways to save paper and cost by printing multiple logical pages
on one physical page of paper. They are briefly described here:
- For ascii files, the a2ps utility will convert a file
to postscript, and print it 2 pages per sheet. (2-up)
Usage Example:
"a2ps myfile | lpr "
converts myfile to postscript, and prints it 2-up.
- For postscript files, the psnup filter allows you to specify
the number of multiple pages formatted per sheet. (n-up)
Usage Example:
" psnup -2 myfile.ps | lpr "
prints the postscript file "myfile.ps" 2-up
- For postscript files on linux, use the mpage command. This is
quite similar in command line options to psnup. See usage by typing
man mpage at any command prompt.
Usage Example:
" mpage -2 myfile.ps | lpr "
prints the postscript file "myfile.ps" 2-up
- For dvi files, a new utility called psnupprint uses
dvips, psnup and lpr to take a postscript file, format it
for 2-up, and print it.
Usage Example:
" psnupprint myfile.dvi"
temporarily creates a postscript file from the dvi,
and prints it 2-up.
- From within Ghostview, printing multiple pages can be set as default:

via the man pages.
