Do grad students have free time?

Good question. But it never hurts to be prepared, so on the rare occasions when I don't find myself swamped with taking classes or teaching them, I:

• ride (attempt to, at any rate)
• read (novels, not textbooks)
• doodle (if you haven't already noticed)
• play the organ (if one is available)
• play games (yes, really, but not those vacuous ^† shoot-em-ups. I'm a fan of good interactive fiction -- try Photopia by Adam Cadre for a gentle introduction, Worlds Apart by Suzanne Britton if you're ready for something longer ^§)

I also write poetry, but that should only be imposed on a captive audience.
