Research Interests

I am a graduate student doing research in extragalactic astrophysics and cosmology. I am generally interested in observational cosmology, extragalactic astrophysics, structure formation, and astronomical data analysis. The primary focus of my research currently is on (1) galaxy evolution in galaxy cluster environment, (2) the interaction of galaxy and intra-cluster medium, and (3) starburst winds and host galaxy properties.

Publication

2007

  • Numerous review papers...LOL!

2006

  • "Infalling Faint [OII] Emitters in Abell 851. I. Spectroscopic Confirmation of Narrowband-Selected Objects," Sato, T., Martin, C. L. 2006, ApJ, 647, 934

Observing Experiences

  • Near-Infrared imaging with FLAMINGOS on KPNO 4-m on Jan 15 - 19, 2006.
  • Near-Infrared imaging with FLAMINGOS on KPNO 4-m on Jan 20 - 25, 2005. See the trip photo gallery.
  • Nickel 1-m at Lick Observatory on April 12 - 14, 2004. See the trip photo gallery.

Research Proposal Batting Average

  • As a PI: .500 (2/4)
  • As a Co-I: .000 (0/2)
  • Total: .333 (2/6)

I may not write a bunch of great proposals but still hit like Ted Williams.

Instructional Activities

I have been a teaching assistant for the following courses:

  • Physics 1 & 2 - Basic Physics
  • Physics 6 - Introductory Experimental Physics
  • Physics 128 - Advanced Experimental Physics
  • Physics 129 - Computer Interfacing
  • Physics 232 - Stellar Structure and Evolution
  • Astronomy 1 & 2 - Basic Astronomy

I helped writing the lab manual for Physics 6 and Physics 128. I also helped checking the homework solutions for Dr. James Hartle's undergraduate general relativity textbook.

I do feel strongly about sharing science with non-specialists --- science would be nothing if it were only personal endeavor. Hence I generally enjoy taking part in teaching though it is never actually easy for me to do!
