MEC Prime

An upgraded successor to MEC with improved wavelength resolution and more functional pixels for exoplanet atmosphere characterization.

Overview

MEC Prime is the next-generation upgrade to the MKID Exoplanet Camera at the Subaru Telescope. Building on the success of MEC and informed by years of on-sky operations with SCExAO, MEC Prime will incorporate advances in MKID array fabrication, readout technology (including the MKIDGen3 RFSoC-based system), and optical design to push further in contrast, wavelength coverage, and pixel count.

This project is funded by NSF (awarded August 2024).
