Single molecule studies of Ag:DNA
By studying single silver clusters stabilized by DNA, one can observe properties of these materials, such as their polarization dependence, that are lost in ensemble measurements averaged over many emitters. We are working to develop optical imaging techniques for observing single Ag:DNA clusters, alone and on DNA scaffolds, at room temperature and at cryogenic temperatures. This work is being done in collaboration with Prof. Dirk Bouwmeester for development of an imaging system with nanopositioning capabilities at cryogenic temperatures.
