Before class starts, push the white ping pong ball beneath the surface of the beans. Place the red metal ball on the surface. Rapidly shake the beaker. (This is easiest to do by keeping the beaker on the table and sliding it quickly back and forth.) The red ball sinks into the beans, then the white ball rises. To the class it appears that you have magically changed the color of a single ball.
