A microwave transmitter is set up on one side of two semi-circular
cakes of wax. A receiver, which is connected to a meter display, is positioned
at various points around the other side of the cakes. Microwaves are reflected
at the gap between the two cakes. When the gap is narrowed until the cakes
are almost touching, reflection ceases and the microwaves pass straight through
both cakes.
