Facilities:
Three large chalkboards with two sliding panels each, plus two small chalkboards at each side Three projection screens, all 12 feet square: A retractable screen at center and one fixed screen at each side One overhead projector (plus an additional projector owned by the physics department) Two slide projectors (mounted on the back wall), with remote controls (forward, backward, focus) at the lecture table Two data projectors, both EPSON EB-PU1008W (WUXGA, 1920 × 1200 × 3), one to project on the center screen, and one to project on the screen at audience right Stereo sound system with wireless microphone* Computer lectern† with installed PC, two USB ports, an HDMI and a USB-C cable (to connect a laptop computer to the projectors and sound system), and one electrical outlet (110 VAC). The lectern has a touch panel to select which device (e.g., lectern PC, laptop PC) is connected to which projector, with a “display mute” to blank the display of either projector (or both). An AVerVision F17HD document camera, mounted on the lectern shelf, is connected to a USB port on the lectern computer. You can use the camera app on the computer to display the image from the document camera. Lecture table with requisite utilities for performing demonstrations (water, electricity, compressed air and natural gas), and also an HDMI port to connect to either projector via the control panel at the lectern Though there is no placard stating this, according to the Communication Services page on the Disabled Students Program (DSP) web site, Broida 1610 is fitted with an infrared system to accommodate assistive listening devices (ALDs). Students who need ALDs may arrange to borrow them by sending email to commrequests@sa.ucsb.edu. A pencil sharpener and stapler are mounted at the front of the hall, at the right edge of the center chalkboards. Broida 1610 has Wi-Fi connection to the eduroam, UCSB Secure and UCSB Wireless Web networks.
*The wireless microphone, along with all of the audio-visual equipment listed above, belongs to the instructional development unit, NOT to the physics department. It will be available during your scheduled class time. If you need it for a special class session, please request it from Media Equipment at x3549 or Kerr Hall, room 1160.
†A key is no longer necessary to operate the projectors. During scheduled hours, the system turns on when you touch the touch pad. If you would like to use the lectern computer, you must set up an account at Kerr Hall, room 1160. (You may also do this over the phone at x3549, but if you go to Kerr Hall, you will be able to check immediately that the account works.) If you have already set up an account, it should still be active.
The touch pad on the lectern has tiles that allow you to choose the various options. Though some slight changes may have occurred since it was written, this instruction sheet (.pdf) should be useful.
Note: Storage on the Instructional Development server is no longer available. If you used to upload your lecture materials to this server, for download when you logged in at the lecture hall, you can no longer do that. You will need to use either a flash drive or a web-accessible storage service such as Dropbox or Google Drive.
