Visitor
Access to Campus Resources
Campus is working on allowing EduRoam access for campus wireless, as well as creating a “guest” access method for other visitors. However that system is not currently functional. In the meantime, the Physics Department can create temporary credentials for visitors.
Campus wireless is now available in Broida Hall in many common areas, including the faculty office spaces, the lounges, the conference and meeting rooms, the Physics Study Room, the lobby areas, the graduate trailers, the lecture halls, the department office and the roof gathering areas.
Information about all wireless areas on campus is found at:

Information needed
To create a temporary UCSBNetID for your academic visitor, we need a minimum of one business day for campus to process the request,.
PCS needs the following information to make the request:
· First Name, Middle Name, Last Name
· Affiliate’s e-mail address and birthdate
· The start and end date of their visit.
The birthdate is considered “personally identifiable information” by the State of California, and falls under the SB-1386 privacy requirements. We suggest you have the individual e-mail the name and birthdate information directly to PCS (pcs@physics.ucsb.edu). We will use it and delete it immediately. This way, you don’t have any liability for this information. You, as their sponsor, should e-mail us with the name and start/end dates as confirmation we are receiving an authorized request.
Activating the UCSBNetID
After we create the account request,
we will e-mail your visitor the “Annex Locator” generated by the request. It looks something like this:
ABZ-AR5
Now your visitor needs to activate their Identity using the campus identity manager web page:
https://secure.identity.ucsb.edu/manager/
After entering the Annex Locator and their Date of Birth, they get a page that looks like this:
Click on “Begin Identity Activation”.
They need to agree to the UCSB terms and conditions.
Next they provide answers to a set of security questions:
Next, they get to choose a UCSBNetID from a list of available choices, or they can select one of their own.
Then, they set a password.
Finally, they select a name to be “known by”, which defaults to their first name, as provided, and they confirm an e-mail address that can be used to contact them while they are at UCSB.
They need to remember the UCSBNetID they selected, as well as their password. To reset this information, they need their birthdate and the “Annex Locator” we emailed them.
When this step is complete, the account is ready to be used by campus services. The account database is updated overnight, so your visitor should try to complete these steps at least one business day before they arrive on campus.
Checking your UCSBNet
ID
If you want to check a UCSBNetID – to be sure it is active, and that you know your password, go to this page:
https://secure.identity.ucsb.edu/netid_diags/
It will verify your account information is valid. If a service still doesn’t work, there is a problem not related to your credentials.
