How to use the
eBook version of UNIVERSE, 7th edition
1. Go to
http://ebooks.bfwpub.com/universe.php.
You will see a login screen that looks like the one depicted below.
If you purchased the package at the UCSB Bookstore that includes an eBook access code,
click on REGISTER and follow the instructions. If instead you need to purchase eBook access directly,
click on PURCHASE and follow the instructions to purchase access using a credit card.
Be sure to write down your username and password ---
you'll need them every time you want to acess the eBook.

2. Subscribe to your instructor's annotations.
Once you are logged in to the eBook, you will be on its "front page" as shown below.
If you can use the Web, you can use the eBook!
To see the custom annotations that your instructor has prepared to go with the eBook,
click on Settings.
This will open a new browser window; in this window, click on Subscribe to another Annotation Set,
then enter the 7-digit Set ID number 9586131 in the new window that pops up. Then click on OK.
You will now be able to see your instructor's annotations on the pages of the assigned readings.
(You can also create your own annotations by clicking on Create a new Annotation Set,
and you can share your annotations with your friends by letting them know the 7-digit Set ID number for your annotations.)

3. Go to the Table of Contents and check your computer's system.
Use the pull-down menu at the top of the "front page" and select Table of Contents.
The image below shows many of the key features.
Be sure to click on System Check --- this will check whether you have all the required software
to see all of the eBook's features, and will help you download any software you might need.

4. Start reading!
Go to the chapter you want using the pull-down menu at the top of the page.
In each chapter, be sure to check out the Animations, Flashcards,
Interactive Quizzes, and Web Links.
(We will not use the eBook's Online Quizzes in the class --- instead we will use the WebAssign system,
described on the On-Line Assignments page.)
You can also see a larger version of any figure just by clicking on it.
