About Me
I am a postdoc working with Tommaso Treu in the Astrophysics Group at the University of California, Santa Barbara . Recently (2009-2011) I was a CITA National Fellow in the Astronomy Group in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Victoria, Canada. Before this (2006-2009) I was a postdoc at UCO Lick Observatory and the Department of Astronomy & Astrophysics at the University of California, Santa Cruz, U.S.A, where I worked with the DEEP2 project ( Webpages: DEEP2, AEGIS). I received a PhD (January 2007) from the Institute for Astronomy, ETH Zurich, Switzerland , where I worked with Frank van den Bosch on disk galaxy formation. I received a Masters in Physics at the University of British Columbia, Canada, where I worked with Stephane Courteau on mass models of spiral galaxies. I received an undergraduate degree in Mathematics at Cambridge University, England, where I also completed Part III of the Mathematical Tripos.

My Research
My main interests are understanding the structure and formation of galaxies and their dark matter halos.
My current/recent projects include:

Constraints on the stellar IMF and dark matter profiles in galaxies: From kinematics and strong gravitational lensing (SWELLS - Dutton et al. 2011c, Treu et al. 2011); and Galaxy scaling relations (Dutton et al. 2011b).

Origin of the evolution of star formation rates (Dutton, van den Bosch & Dekel 2010a), and structural properties (Dutton et al. 2011a) of disk galaxies across cosmic time.

The Galaxy-Dark Matter connection from satellite kinematics and weak galaxy-galaxy lensing (Dutton et al. 2010b).

The role of galactic outflows (aka feedback) in setting the structure of galactic disks (Dutton & van den Bosch 2009, Dutton 2009, Dutton & van den Bosch 2011).

The structure and angular momentum of dark matter halos in cosmological simulations (Maccio et al. 2007, Maccio et al. 2008).

Origin of the scaling relations between rotation velocity, luminosity and size of disk galaxies (Dutton et al. 2007, Courteau et al. 2007);
