Reading assignments: The reading assignments listed below are sections from Young and Freedman, University Physics, 12th edition. The reading assignments are the same for the TuTh 9:30-10:45 lecture and for the TuTh 2:00-3:15 lecture.

IMPORTANT NOTE #1 ABOUT THE LECTURES AND READING ASSIGNMENTS: In order to get the most out of the lectures, you must read each assignment BEFORE the lecture.

IMPORTANT NOTE #2 ABOUT THE LECTURES AND READING ASSIGNMENTS: Be certain to bring your i>clicker remote transmitter to every lecture.

IMPORTANT NOTE #3 ABOUT THE LECTURES AND READING ASSIGNMENTS: Your instructor will not discuss each and every topic in the lecture --- only the ones that he feels will give you the most difficulty. If a topic in the assigned reading is not discussed in lecture, you are still responsible for knowing and understanding that topic!

ActivPhysics Online: At various places in your textbook you will see an icon for "ActivPhysics Online" as shown to the right. This refers to helpful simulations that you can view on the Web at http://wps.aw.com/aw_young_physics_11. At that site, use the pull-down menu to select simulations from Part I: Mechanics.

You can also access ActivPhysics from within MasteringPhysics. Once you are logged in to MasteringPhysics, click on the "ActivPhysics OnLine" button at the left of the screen.

MasteringPhysics assignments: The due dates for the MasteringPhysics assignments are also listed below. For details about how to use MasteringPhysics, visit the MasteringPhysics page.

Note that each week you will have three MasteringPhysics assignments. Most weeks these will be due at the following times:
  • Monday night at 11:59 p.m.: A reading quiz with a single problem based on the reading assignment for the following day's (Tuesday's) lecture.
  • Wednesday night at 11:59 p.m.: A reading quiz with a single problem based on the reading assignment for the following day's (Thursday's) lecture.
  • Sunday night at 11:59 p.m.: A homework assignment with 12 problems based on the material covered during the previous week's lectures.
There will be a different schedule of MasteringPhysics assignments during the weeks of January 21 (due to the Martin Luther King Day holiday), January 28 (due to the first midterm exam), February 18 (due to the Presidents' Day holiday), February 25 (due to the second midterm exam), and March 10 (the last week of classes).

All MasteringPhysics assignments will be available at least one week before they are due.
