The Physics Department has decided to operate its own internal
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone system, in an effort to contain
department costs. In doing so, it centralizes much of the hardware and
recurring costs. In order to allocated these costs, and provide access
to other department members, we calculated recharge costs for various
aspects of the VoIP system.
The Physics Department has designated the Physics Computing Services (PCS)
networking unit as the phone system operator, and all billing and charges
are processed through that unit.
Actual phone instruments provided are based on the technical requirements of the base system, as determined by the department technical staff. Customer supplied equipment must be on the PCS supported list. Customization of the system (i.e. phone trees for a research lab) and other additional work can be provided by Physics Computing Services at their normal rates. Rates listed below include normal configuration and allocation of equipment for the purposes of meeting the department phone policy.
Where designated in the policy, this will also include a direct-inward-dialed (DID) number:
This allows, for example, customer supplied (compatible) VoIP phone equipment to be used:
This should be charged directly to the account by the campus phone system.
